Trouble shooting -- Mar 29 2007, 12:39 AM

Please read this carefully, as I'll walk you through the exact same debug procedure I use when I run into trouble with any code... whether it's mine, or someone else's.

Step 1 -
Try to undo what you last did.

Sounds obvious, but it's often harder than it sounds. Don't open an email ticket yet. If you're certain that you only changed X, and when you changed it back, it still doesn't work, it's time to move on to step two.

Step 2 -
Create a new directory and upload the files.

That's right. The fastest way to get this solved is to actually start over from scratch in a new directory. So upload those files, and meet me at step three BEFORE you touch a thing.

Step 3 -
Change only two things... license and recipient email. Nothing more. Now test.

You test by opening up your browser and going to www.yoursite.com/directoryname/test.php and submitting the form

Did it work? Go to Step 4. If not, then please search the other articles in this knowledge base, then the online support forum at

www.ultimateformmail.com/ufm2

And then, and only then, open a ticket. When you do, give me the website url to your contact form, and exactly what the problem is.

Step 4 -
Change one thing, test, repeat as necessary.

Yep... slow and steady does it. Look, I do the exact same thing when I need to know where I'm screwing something up.

If you only change one thing and everything goes haywire, guess where your problem is? You got it.

Step 5 -
Can't figure it out, but you know exactly what it is? Don't open a ticket yet.

It's time to search the user support forums at

www.ultimateformmail.com/ufm2

If you use the Search link you can almost certainly find something related to your issue because I almost NEVER get a new question.

If you still can't find the problem, okay, it's time to open up a support ticket but at least you know EXACTLY where to tell me to look.
