Test Drive Configuration -- Mar 29 2007, 1:56 AM
The settings for Ultimate Form Mail are in a file called controls.php in the main 'ufm' directory. Open up the copy on your hard drive using either Notepad (not Wordpad) or Dreamweaver or your favorite HTML editor.
(I hate FrontPage, but if you have to use it, use it.)
For the first go round just put in your temporary license number where it asks for it and change the default email address to one of your own.
That's it. Do not get trigger happy and change more stuff. Just don't. We'll get to that in a bit.
Now, save the file, and upload it to your server so that it overwrites the old version of controls.php in the ufm directory on your server. (Again, I'm assuming you at least know a tiny bit about how to ftp files to your website)
Now, go back to www.yoursite.com/ufm/test.php and submit the form. You should see a very generic thanks page and in a few seconds you'll have an email sitting in your inbox.
If so, pat yourself on the back. That was easy wasn't it?
Problems
Ok, if you have trouble at this point, and you only changed two things, then you need to take a close look at how you typed the code in controls.php
Did you keep the single quotes intact? Did you keep the apostrophes at the end of the line intact?
Did you use Notepad instead of Wordpad to edit?
Double check your work, and then check it again. If you're still stumped, then start over by unzipping the files, and grabbing a fresh new copy of controls.php Upload it to your server, test the file, and you should get a page that gives a license error. That means that everything is actually working fine.
Now put in the temp license and reupload. Did it work?
Now change your email and upload controls.php and test it out... Did that work?
PHP has a certain structure and it's not difficult to follow the pattern, but one single misplaced or missing quote or apostrophe (among other things) and everything grinds to a halt.
